Introduction Part 2

Conventional Acrylic

|
Conventional
Acrylic coatings allow moisture from heavy rain to penetrate
through pores and cracks. This water then tries to escape
back through the cracks and carries with it dissolved salts
that accumulate under the coating or carry through the
crack to show as efflorescence.
Because these coatings also do not allow vapour to pass through any moisture
is trapped within the substrate and cannot “dry” out.

 |
SILTEC Façade coating does not form a continuous film
but coats cracks and pores leaving the organic resin groups projecting out into
the pores. These resin groups act like little umbrellas repelling any moisture
and not allowing the surface of cracks and pores to wet out and capillary water
into the substrate. Because the SILTEC Façade coating does not close over
pores it remains able to allow water vapour to pass through allowing the substrate
to dry out.
